I raised the bar -1

I thought that I have raised the bar several times unconsciously in my childhood for studying and helping my parents for housework. I grew up experiencing a hard but lovely childhood in a poor family where the father is a teacher and the mother is a farmer in a quiet rural area.
I remember clearly the time when I started to raise the bar consciously from the last year at my high school. At that time, the rate of students who passed the examinations to Universities was very and very mall. Beside that students in my school did not have a clear idea about the subjects or majors that they can study in the University or in a higher education school. Some students chose to study special skills from other ones in the area such as carpenters, radio set repairers, watch repairers, etc., to carry on their own practices after they graduation. These students could not successful because of the small market and the limitation of their knowledge and skill. A normal way is that they will become the farmers, or a worker with very low level of skill requirement.
What I should become? I don't want to be a farmer. I and some of my friends started to think by ourselves of our future. I was aware that it is very difficult to rival a University "ticket" from many city students. If I could not pass the exam I might become a farmer soon and late, however. I had to setup my goal. Trying to enter a higher education school or become a farmer.
I applied 3 applications for 3 schools with the rank from low to high. This could help me to improve my confidence. And then I started to stop going out with my friends frequently but stayed at home and practiced preparing for the examination. I started to solve problems from the basic to the advance ones. At the beginning I tried to practice the basic ones as most as possible. By this work, I could study more knowledge and improve my problem solving skills. I kept doing so every day with daily goal of solving at least 3 problems in Mathematic, Physics or Chemical Science.
Sometimes I disappointed that I could not finish solving 3 problems. However, I encouraged myself immediately to keep raising the bar. I thought by myself that, such problems might be classified in the advance ones. "Keep thinking about them, moving to other problems and they might be solved some time later". Kept thinking about those issues, kept raising the bar, I tried to discuss with my friends or with my teachers any time when it was possible. The problems were usually solved after then. Sometimes I found some hints in my dreams when I slept. Now I understand that I could study even when I slept if the goal of passing the examination was solidly setup and the bar for achieving that goal is kept raising.
Keeping raising the bar in that way for around a year, I passed all the exams to enter to the 3 Universities. One of them is a very famous University many clever students were studying and among of them several students had to quit the school since they could not catch up the heavy curriculum. I chose this school and set my new GOAL
I had raised the bar to a very important point. However, new challenges were waiting for me at the university. In general, the distance between city students and the students from rural areas were very far especially in foreign language, computer skills and the ability to reach the study equipments and tools (I even did not have enough money for my daily life). How could I catch up my new friends? Could I keep raising the bar efficiently in the University? I will tell you in the next story.
